Laser Liposuction

Laser liposuction or liposculpture is, as we all know, the most practiced surgery in the world. Liposuction with the conventional technique, or with Laser, or Laser is performed in patients who wish to improve their body contour by removing excess localized or generalized fat from different areas of the body, such as abdomen, back, hips and waist, likewise, thighs can be treated both in their internal and external face, under the buttocks and even in the arms; depending on the physical characteristics and expectations of the patient. It can also be performed on the cheeks and neck to make the facial angles look more defined and overall even more noticeable decrease in size and weight.

The laser liposuction known as Lipolaser, laser lipolysis or laser lipolysis performed by Dr. Carlos Rivera offers more advantages than the conventional fat removal system. First of all, it is a less invasive and traumatic technique for the patient, since the surgeon does not have to use as much force as he does with the traditional cannula, in most cases bleeding is less and less time is needed under the effects of anesthesia, therefore it is a surgery with fewer risks. With laser lipolysis or laser liposuction the surgeon can work more gently areas with fatty deposits, in the vast majority of cases there is less bruising and less swelling compared to conventional liposuction.

Laser liposuction is indicated for patients who wish to shape their figure giving better body contour by removing localized fat deposits and in some cases to graft fat in places where it is necessary. It is not a procedure designed for weight loss, and the good results and its maintenance depend on the patient’s cooperation and compliance in the postoperative period and adopting or maintaining healthy eating habits and physical activity.

To begin with, the plastic surgeon makes small incisions in the part of the body from which the fat deposits are to be removed. These incisions are usually quite small. The surgeon will then insert a thin suction tube, called a cannula, into the incision, which will pass through the deep layer of fat. The surgeon will move the cannula back and forth to destroy the fat cells, and suction them out with the help of a syringe or vacuum pump attached to the cannula. In the laser lipolysis technique the cannula emits a laser beam that helps dissolve the fat cells making the fat removal easier, which allows for less swelling, less pain and faster recovery. At the end of the procedure the patient will be dressed with a post-surgical girdle specially designed to accompany the recovery process, the use of this garment is essential because it helps to reduce swelling, eliminate fluids quickly, reduce pain, prevents the appearance of fibrosis and shapes the figure.

The incisions are very small and their size varies between a quarter and a third of an inch. Therefore the scars are practically imperceptible.

The patient will feel some swelling but it is not a painful procedure, it all depends on the pain tolerance of each patient. The pain will be in the massage procedure as it is a little uncomfortable but bearable during the first 5 days. There is no bed rest, the patient must have movement, the faster the patient returns to their daily activities the better the result will be.

Liposuction usually takes two hours, however the time required can vary considerably depending on the area and the amount of fat to be aspirated.

The anesthetic technique can be regional or general, but each individual case is analyzed and determined together with the patient during the pre-anesthetic evaluation.

It is an outpatient procedure and therefore does not require hospitalization. After the surgery the patient will be in recovery for one hour and then will be discharged.

After surgery, patients can resume their activities on the 5th day.

For foreign patients coming to Colombia, the surgeon must make recommendations on the recovery time involved in the stay within the city since for patient safety is requested that the patient must be at least 3 days before the scheduled date for surgery in order to take prophylaxis or preventive measures with the plastic surgeon and anesthesiologist since the safety protocol indicates that if the patient comes from a trip of 6 or more hours, he/she must wait 72 hours to be operated on since staying still for a long time in the plane affects circulation, and the risk of thromboembolism in the operation is higher, The patient must wait 72 hours to undergo surgery, since staying still in the plane for a long time affects the circulation, and the risk of thromboembolism during the operation is higher. This simple preventive measure greatly reduces the number of complications. This prevention is advisable for those coming from Europe, West Coast of the United States, New York, Canada, Argentina or Chile, those coming from Miami, the wait is reduced to 48 hours. After a liposuction the ideal is that the patient does not travel before 10 days or is performed according to the indications of the plastic surgeon since the recovery and healing times are different in each of the patients, and each of the cases must be individualized. It is important that the plastic surgeon issues a medical certification document that will be required by the aeronautical authorities for travelers. The certificate must be issued no later than 10 days before the date of travel. When several cosmetic surgeries have been performed.

After surgery you will wear an elastic garment, girdle or body garment over the treated area to control swelling and bleeding, as well as to allow your skin to adjust to its new contour. You will probably need to wear this garment continuously for two to three weeks, then only during the day for a few weeks depending on your surgeon’s instructions. Your doctor may also prescribe antibiotics to prevent discomfort. In addition, it is essential to attend post-surgical check-ups with your surgeon on time and take medications as prescribed by your doctor.
